Your Finished SPC Chart

Your completed chart is placed  in the first available columns on the worksheet you specified in Step 4.

Completed SPC Xbar Chart in Excel
  • You can move the chart within the worksheet by grabbing one of the four thick borders with your mouse, and dragging the chart in one direction or another;
  • You can resize the chart window by grabbing and dragging the lower right hand corner of the chart either inward (to reduce the size) or outward (to enlarge the chart window);

Out of control groups are marked on the chart with squares; run tests violations are noted with circles. Use the Run Tests  option in the right mouse menu to conveniently display the Run Test rules that have been applied.  (By default, all run test rules are applied; If any tests are disabled, they will be greyed out in this Run Test window).

When a subgroup is selected from the chart, the plotted dot is changed from black to red. Its data and statistics are shown within the small window that is opened on top of the chart because the Show Browse Window option is turned on in the Format tab (default on).  You can drag the browse window anywhere within the chart window to see points beneath it, although only one subgroup's data can be shown at a time in this method.

In this example chart, the selected subgroup violates the control limits (run tests 1) as well as run test 5 (2 out of 3 groups in a row beyond 2 sigma). A process shift is apparent beginning with the prior subgroup.
